for all of this, the followers of the imams were a group from the earlier generations. and a few from the later generations did not adhere to all the statements of their imams; rather, they abandoned many of them when it became clear to them that they contradicted the sunnah. even the two imams, Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan and Abū Yūsuf (may Allāh have mercy on them), disagreed with their teacher Abū Ḥanīfah in about a third of the school of thought and in the writings of the branches
