and let those who oppose his command beware, lest a trial befall them or a painful punishment befall them. Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Rajab, may Allāh have mercy on him, said: "It is obligatory upon everyone who receives the command of the Messenger (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and knows it to convey it to the community, advise them, and command them to follow his command, even if this contradicts the opinion of a great figure among the community. For the command of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) is more deserving of being revered and emulated than the opinion of any esteemed person who may have erred in some matters. Hence, the Companions and those after them refuted anyone who opposed an authentic sunnah, and they might have been stern in their refutation, not out of hatred for him, as he is beloved to them and esteemed in their hearts, but because the Messenger of Allāh is dearer to them, and his command is above the command of any created being. Therefore, if the command of the Messenger conflicts with someone else's command, the command of the Messenger is more deserving of being prioritized and followed
وقال: فليحذر الذين يخالفون عن أمره أن تصيبهم فتنة أو يصيبهم عذاب أليم. قال الحافظ ابن رجب رحمه الله تعالى: (فالواجب على كل من بلغه أمر الرسول ﷺ وعرفه أن يبينه للأمة وينصح لهم ويأمرهم باتباع أمره وإن خالف ذلك رأي عظيم من الأمة. فإن أمر رسول الله ﷺ أحق أن يعظم ويقتدى به من رأى أي معظم قد خالف أمره في بعض الأشياء خطأ. ومن هنا رد الصحابة ومن بعدهم على كل مخالف سنة صحيحة وربما أغلظوا في الرد لا بغضا له بل هو محبوب عندهم معظم في نفوسهم لكن رسول الله أحب إليهم وأمره فوق أمر كل مخلوق. فإذا تعارض أمر الرسول وأمر غيره فأمر الرسول أولى أن يقدم ويتبع.
