The Ḥadīths of the Sunan: Well-Known and Not Supported by the Unfamiliar
The ḥadīths that I have included in the book "al-Sunan" are mostly well-known, and they are recognized by everyone who has written anything about ḥadīth, except that distinguishing them is not something everyone can do. The pride in them is that they are well-known, for a ḥadīth that is unfamiliar is not used as evidence, even if it is narrated by Mālik, Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd, and the trustworthy scholars of knowledge. If a person uses an unfamiliar ḥadīth as evidence, you will find someone who criticizes it, and the ḥadīth that has been used as evidence is not accepted if it is unfamiliar and odd. As for the well-known, continuous, and authentic ḥadīth, no one is able to reject it against you. Ibrāhīm al-Nakhaʿī said, they used to dislike the unfamiliar ḥadīth
