except that it is included, unless it is a commentary extracted from the ḥadīth, and this is rarely the case.
وَهِي فِيهِ إِلَّا أَن يكون كَلَام استخرج من الحَدِيث وَلَا يكَاد يكون هَذَا
Its Value and Importance
قِيمَته ومقداره
I do not know anything after the Quran that is more obligatory for people to learn than this book. It does not harm a man not to write anything from knowledge after he writes these books. And when he looks into it, reflects on it, and understands it, then he will know its importance.
وَلَا أعلم شَيْئا بعد الْقُرْآن ألزم للنَّاس أَن يتعلموه من هَذَا الْكتاب. وَلَا يضر رجلا أَن لَا يكْتب من الْعلم بعد مَا يكْتب هَذِه الْكتب شَيْئا. وَإِذا نظر فِيهِ وتدبره وتفهمه حِينَئِذٍ يعلم مِقْدَاره.
The Ḥadīths of His Book as Foundations of Jurisprudential Issues
أَحَادِيث كِتَابه أصُول الْمسَائِل الْفِقْهِيَّة
As for these issues, the issues of al-Thawrī, Mālik, and al-Shāfiʿī these ḥadīths are their foundations
وَأما هَذِه الْمسَائِل مسَائِل الثَّوْريّ وَمَالك وَالشَّافِعِيّ فَهَذِهِ الْأَحَادِيث أُصُولهَا
Opinions of the Companions
آراء الصَّحَابَة
I like that a man writes along with these books from the opinions of the Companions of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)
ويعجبني أَن يكْتب الرجل مَعَ هَذِه الْكتب من رَأْي أَصْحَاب النَّبِي ﷺ
The Collection of Sufyān
جَامع سُفْيَان
And he should also write something like the collection of Sufyān al-Thawrī for it is the best of what people have compiled in collections
وَيكْتب أَيْضا مثل جَامع سُفْيَان الثَّوْريّ فَإِنَّهُ أحسن مَا وضع النَّاس فِي الْجَوَامِع
