and in the book of al-Sunan from the "Muwaṭṭaʾ" of Mālik ibn Anas, there is something beneficial. Likewise, from the compilations of Ḥammād ibn Salamah and ʿAbd al-Razzāq. I do not think that a third of these books are in the books of all of them, meaning the compilations of Mālik ibn Anas, Ḥammād ibn Salamah, and ʿAbd al-Razzāq.
وَفِي كتاب السّنَن من موطأ مَالك بن أنس شَيْء صَالح. وَكَذَلِكَ من مصنفات حَمَّاد بن سَلمَة وَعبد الرَّزَّاق. وَلَيْسَ ثلث هَذِه الْكتب فِيمَا أَحْسبهُ فِي كتب جَمِيعهم أَعنِي مصنفات مَالك بن أنس وَحَمَّاد بن سَلمَة وَعبد الرَّزَّاق.
I have compiled it in the order it appeared to me, so if a sunnah is mentioned to you from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that I have not included, know that it is a weak ḥadīth unless it is in my book from another route. For I did not include the routes because it would be too extensive for the learner, and I do not know anyone who has collected exhaustively other than myself. al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī al-Khallāl had compiled about nine hundred ḥadīths from it and mentioned that Ibn al-Mubārak said the sunan from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) are about nine hundred ḥadīths. He was told
وَقد ألفته نسقا على مَا وَقع عِنْدِي فَإِن ذكر لَك عَن النَّبِي ﷺ سنه لَيْسَ مِمَّا خرجته فَاعْلَم أَنه حَدِيث واه إِلَّا أَن يكون فِي كتابي من طَرِيق آخر. فَإِنِّي لم أخرج الطّرق لِأَنَّهُ يكبرعلى المتعلموَلَا أعرف أحدا جمع على الِاسْتِقْصَاء غَيْرِي. وَكَانَ الْحسن بن عَليّ الْخلال قد جمع مِنْهُ قدر تِسْعمائَة حَدِيث وَذكر أَن ابْن الْمُبَارك قَالَ السّنَن عَن النَّبِي ﷺ نَحْو تِسْعمائَة حَدِيث. فَقيل لَهُ
