Abbreviation of the ḥadīth
اخْتِصَار الحَدِيث
Sometimes I abbreviate the lengthy ḥadīth because if I were to write it in full, some who hear it might not understand or grasp the point of jurisprudence within it. Therefore, I abbreviate it for this reason.
وَرُبمَا اختصرت الحَدِيث الطَّوِيل لِأَنِّي لَو كتبته بِطُولِهِ لم يعلم بعض من سَمعه وَلَا يفهم مَوضِع الْفِقْه مِنْهُ. فاختصرت لذَلِك.
The mursal and using it as evidence
الْمُرْسل والاحتجاج بِهِ
As for the mursal ḥadīths, scholars in the past used to accept them as evidence, such as Sufyān al-Thawrī, Mālik ibn Anas, and al-Awzāʿī. Until al-Shāfiʿī came and spoke about them, and he was followed in this by Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal and others (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhum)
وَأما الْمَرَاسِيل فقد كَانَ يحْتَج بهَا الْعلمَاء فِيمَا مضى مثل سُفْيَان الثَّوْريّ وَمَالك بن أنس وَالْأَوْزَاعِيّ. حَتَّى جَاءَ الشَّافِعِي فَتكلم فِيهَا وَتَابعه على ذَلِك أَحْمد بن حَنْبَل وَغَيره رضوَان الله عَلَيْهِم
