and some of them say: On the Day of Resurrection, I will pitch my tent over Hell so that no one enters it. Such statements, which are attributed to some of the well-known shaykhs, are either falsehoods about them or mistakes from them. Such things may occur in a state of intoxication and overwhelming ecstasy, where a person's discernment fails or weakens to the point that they do not know what they are saying. Intoxication is a pleasure without discernment, and for this reason, some of these individuals, when they regain their senses, seek forgiveness for such speech. Those shaykhs who have indulged in listening to poems containing themes of love, longing, blame, and passion had this as their primary intention. For this genre stirs whatever love is in the heart, regardless of its nature, and for this reason, Allāh has sent down a trial to test the lover. He said [Sūrah Āl ʿImrān, 31]: ﴿Say, "If you love Allāh, then follow me, and Allāh will love you"﴾. Thus, no one truly loves Allāh except the one who follows His Messenger, and obedience to the Messenger and following him can only be achieved through fulfilling servitude. Many who claim to love deviate from his sharīʿah and sunnah (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and claim states that this context does not suffice to mention. Some even believe that obligations are lifted and prohibitions are made lawful for them, and other such things that contradict the sharīʿah of the Messenger, his sunnah, and obedience to him. Rather, Allāh has made the foundation of love for Him and His Messenger the striving in His path, and striving encompasses the perfection of love for what Allāh has commanded and the perfection of hatred for what Allāh has forbidden. For this reason, He described those whom He loves and who love Him [Sūrah al-Māʾidah, 54]:
وَيَقُول بَعضهم: إِذا كَانَ يَوْم الْقِيَامَة نصبت خَيْمَتي على جَهَنَّم حَتَّى لَا يدخلهَا أحد. وأمثال ذَلِك من الْأَقْوَال الَّتِي تُؤثر عَن بعض الْمَشَايِخ الْمَشْهُورين وَهِي إِمَّا كذب عَلَيْهِم وَإِمَّا غلط مِنْهُم. وَمثل هَذَا قد يصدر فِي حَال سكر وَغَلَبَة وفناء يسْقط فِيهَا تَمْيِيز الْإِنْسَان أَو يضعف حَتَّى لَا يدْرِي مَا قَالَ. وَالسكر هُوَ لَذَّة مَعَ عدم تَمْيِيز وَلِهَذَا كَانَ من هَؤُلَاءِ من إِذا صَحا اسْتغْفر من ذَلِك الْكَلَام. وَالَّذين توسعوا من الشُّيُوخ فِي سَماع القصائد المتضمنة للحب والشوق واللوم والعذل والغرام كَانَ هَذَا أصل مقصدهم. فَإِن هَذَا الْجِنْس يُحَرك مَا فِي الْقلب من الْحبّ كَائِنا مَا كَانَ وَلِهَذَا أنزل الله محنة يمْتَحن بهَا الْمُحب. فَقَالَ [٣١ آل عمرَان] : ﴿قل إِن كُنْتُم تحبون الله فَاتبعُوني يحببكم الله﴾. فَلَا يكون محبا لله إِلَّا من يتبع رَسُوله وَطَاعَة الرَّسُول ومتابعته لَا تكون إِلَّا بتحقيق الْعُبُودِيَّة. وَكثير مِمَّن يَدعِي الْمحبَّة يخرج عَن شَرِيعَته وسنته ﷺ وَيَدعِي من الْحَالَات مَا لَا يَتَّسِع هَذَا الْموضع لذكره. حَتَّى قد يظنّ أحدهم سُقُوط الْأَمر وَتَحْلِيل الْحَرَام لَهُ وَغير ذَلِك مِمَّا فِيهِ مُخَالفَة شَرِيعَة الرَّسُول وسنته وطاعته. بل قد جعل الله أساس محبته ومحبة رَسُوله الْجِهَاد فِي سَبيله وَالْجهَاد يتَضَمَّن كَمَال محبَّة مَا أَمر الله بِهِ وَكَمَال بغض مَا نهى الله عَنهُ. وَلِهَذَا قَالَ فِي صفة من يُحِبهُمْ وَيُحِبُّونَهُ [٥٤ الْمَائِدَة] :
