achieve for them what is sought. Rather, the aim is the paths that sound reason takes to achieve its goal. When this is clear, whenever the heart increases in love for Allāh, it increases in servitude to Him, and whenever it increases in servitude to Him, it increases in love for Him and prefers Him over anything else. The heart is inherently in need of Allāh in two ways: from the aspect of worship, which is the ultimate purpose, and from the aspect of seeking help and reliance, which is the active cause. Thus, the heart is not rectified, successful, happy, delighted, satisfied, at ease, or tranquil except through worshiping its Lord, loving Him, and turning to Him. Even if it obtains everything it desires from created beings, it will not find tranquility or peace, for it has an inherent need for its Lord as its object of worship, love, and pursuit. Through this, it attains joy, happiness, pleasure, blessing, tranquility, and peace. This is not achieved except with Allāh's assistance, for no one can achieve this for him except Allāh. Thus, he is always in need of the reality of "You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help" (Sūrah al-Fātiḥah, verse 5). For if he were aided in obtaining everything he loves, seeks, desires, and wants, yet did not achieve worship of Allāh, he would only attain pain, regret, and torment. He will not be freed from the pains of this world and the distress of its life except by sincere love for Allāh, such that Allāh becomes the ultimate aim of his desire and the end of his pursuit, and He is the beloved to him in the primary sense, and everything else..
