until I am more beloved to him than his child, his parent, and all people." And in "al-Ṣaḥīḥ," it is reported that ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb said: "O Messenger of Allāh, you are more beloved to me than everything except myself." He replied: "No, O ʿUmar, until I am more beloved to you than yourself." So ʿUmar said: "By Allāh, you are more beloved to me than myself." He said: "Now, O ʿUmar." The true essence of love is not complete except by aligning with the beloved, which means agreeing with him in loving what he loves and hating what he hates. Allāh loves faith and piety and hates disbelief, immorality, and disobedience. It is known that love stirs the heart's desire, so the stronger the love in the heart, the more the heart seeks to perform the beloved actions. If the love is complete, it necessitates a firm will to achieve the beloved actions. If the servant is able to do them, he achieves them, and if he is unable, he does what he can of them, and he will have a reward like that of the doer, as the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward like the rewards of those who follow him, without diminishing their rewards in the least. And whoever calls to misguidance will bear a burden like the burdens of those who follow him, without diminishing their burdens in the least." And he said: "Indeed, in Madīnah there are men who, whenever you travel or cross a valley, they are with you." They asked: "While they are in Madīnah?" He said: "While they are in Madīnah, they were held back by an excuse."
