the beloved is part of the complete love of the beloved, so if one loves the prophets of Allāh and the allies of Allāh because they fulfill what is beloved to the Truth and not for any other reason, then he loves them for Allāh's sake, not for anything else. And He, the Exalted, said [Sūrah al-Māʾidah, 54]: "Then Allāh will bring a people whom He loves and who love Him, humble towards the believers, stern towards the disbelievers." And for this reason, He, the Exalted, said [Sūrah Āl ʿImrān, 31]: "Say, if you love Allāh, then follow me, Allāh will love you." For the Messenger only commands what Allāh loves and only forbids what Allāh detests, and he only does what Allāh loves, and he only informs of what Allāh loves to be believed in. So whoever loves Allāh must follow the Messenger, believe in what he informs, obey him in what he commands, and emulate him in what he does. And whoever does this has done what Allāh loves, and Allāh will love him. And Allāh has set two signs for those who love Him: following the Messenger and striving in His cause. And that is because striving is the true exertion in achieving what Allāh loves of faith and righteous deeds and in repelling what Allāh detests of disbelief, immorality, and disobedience. And He, the Exalted, said [Sūrah al-Tawbah, 24]: "Say, if your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your spouses, your relatives, the wealth you have acquired, the commerce you fear may decline, and the dwellings you are pleased with are more beloved to you than Allāh and His Messenger and striving in His cause, then wait until Allāh brings about His command." Thus, He threatened those whose family and wealth are more beloved to them than Allāh and His Messenger and striving in His cause with this warning. Rather, it is established from him (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in "al-Ṣaḥīḥ" that he said: "By the One in whose hand is my soul, one does not truly believe..
