he replied: Worship is a comprehensive term for everything that Allāh loves and is pleased with, from words and deeds, both inward and outward. So prayer, zakāh, fasting, pilgrimage, speaking the truth, fulfilling trusts, honoring parents, maintaining kinship ties, fulfilling promises, enjoining good, forbidding evil, striving against disbelievers and hypocrites, kindness to neighbors, orphans, the needy, travelers, and servants, both human and animal, supplication, remembrance, recitation, and similar acts are forms of worship. Likewise, love for Allāh and His Messenger, fear of Allāh, turning to Him in repentance, sincerity in religion for Him, patience with His decree, gratitude for His blessings, contentment with His judgment, reliance upon Him, hope for His mercy, and fear of His punishment are forms of worship of Allāh. This is because worship of Allāh is the ultimate goal that is beloved and pleasing to Him, for which He created the creation, as Allāh the Exalted said (Sūrah al-Dhāriyāt, 56): "And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me." And through it, He sent all the messengers, as Nūḥ said to his people (Sūrah al-Aʿrāf, 59): "Worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him."
