from the discourse in which he acknowledges that Allāh is his Lord and Creator and the Creator of others. Likewise, the people of the Fire said [23:106]: "Our Lord, our wretchedness overcame us, and we were a people astray." And He, the Exalted, said about them [6:30]: "If you could see when they are made to stand before their Lord, He will say, 'Is this not the truth?' They will say, 'Yes, by our Lord.'" So whoever stops at this reality and its witnessing but does not fulfill what Allāh has commanded in the religious truth, which is His worship related to His divinity and obedience to His command and the command of His Messenger, is akin to Iblīs and the people of the Fire. If, along with that, he thinks he is among the special friends of Allāh and the people of knowledge and realization, who are exempt from the legal commands and prohibitions, he is among the worst of the disbelievers and heretics. And whoever thinks that al-Khiḍr and others are exempt from the command due to witnessing the divine will and the like, his statement is among the worst statements of those who disbelieve in Allāh and His Messenger, until he enters into the second type of meaning of the servant, which is the servant in the sense of the worshiper, so he becomes a worshiper of Allāh, worshiping none but Him, obeying His command and the commands of His messengers, allying with His believing, pious friends, and opposing His enemies. And this worship is related to the divinity of Allāh, the Exalted, and for this reason, the title of tawḥīd is "There is no deity except Allāh," unlike those who acknowledge His lordship but do not worship Him or worship another deity alongside Him. For the deity is the one whom the heart adores with perfect love, veneration, reverence, honor, fear, hope, and the like
