Chapter on the Necessity of Being Sufficient with Its Following, Meaning the Qurʾān
باب وجوب الاستغناء بمتابعته، يعني القرآن ١
And the saying of Allāh, the Exalted: "And We have sent down to you the Book as clarification for all things" (Sūrah an-Naḥl, 16:89). It is narrated by al-Nasāʾī: "From the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he saw in the hand of ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) a page from the Torah and said: 'Are you in doubt, O son of al-Khaṭṭāb? I have brought it to you pure and white. If Mūsá were alive and you followed him and left me, you would have gone astray.'" And in another narration: "If Mūsá were alive, it would not be permissible for him except to follow me. ʿUmar said: 'I am pleased with Allāh as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muḥammad as my Prophet.'"
وقول الله تعالى: ﴿وَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ تِبْيَاناً لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ﴾ ٢. روى النسائي: "عن النبي ﷺ أنه رأى في يد عمر بن الخطاب ﵁ ورقة من التوراة فقال: أمتهوكون يا ابن الخطاب؟ لقد جئتكم بها بيضاء نقية. لو كان موسى حيا واتبعتموه وتركتموني، ضللتم" ٣ وفي رواية: "لو كان موسى حيا ما وسعه إلا اتباعي. فقال عمر: رضيت بالله ربا، وبالإسلام دينا، وبمحمد نبيا".
