and for both of them, from Ibn Masʿūd, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "I will precede you to the Basin, and men from my nation will be brought up to me, until when I reach out to give them [water], they will be taken away from me. I will say: 'O Lord, my companions.' It will be said: 'You do not know what they innovated after you.'" and for both of them, from Abū Hurayrah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "I wish we could see our brothers." They said: "Are we not your brothers, O Messenger of Allāh?" He said: "You are my companions, and my brothers are those who have not yet come." They said: "How will you recognize those of your nation who have not yet come?" He said: "Do you see if a man had horses with white blazes and forelocks among horses that are all black, would he not recognize his horses?" They said: "Indeed." He said: "They will come with white blazes and forelocks from the effects of ablution. And I will precede them to the Basin. Beware, men will be driven away from my Basin on the Day of Resurrection as a stray camel is driven away. I will call to them: 'Come here.' It will be said: 'They changed after you.' So I will say: 'Away, away.'" and for al-Bukhārī: "While I was standing, a group appeared, and when I recognized them and they recognized me, a man came out between me and them and said: 'Come.' I said: 'Where?' He said: 'To the Fire, by Allāh.' I said: 'What is their condition?' He said: 'They turned back on their heels after you.' Then another group appeared—he mentioned similarly—and he said: 'I do not see any of them escaping except like the stray camels.'" and for both of them in the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhumā): "I will say as the righteous servant said: 'And I was a witness over them while I dwelt among them; but when You took me up, You were the Watcher over them, and You are a Witness over all things.'" (Sūrah al-Māʾidah, 5:117)
