Chapter on the Saying of Allāh, the Exalted: "O People of the Scripture, why do you argue about Abraham?"
The saying of Allāh, the Exalted: "O People of the Scripture, why do you argue about Abraham while the Torah and the Gospel were not revealed until after him?" - to His saying - "And he was not of the polytheists." (Āl ʿImrān, 65-67) And His saying: "And who would be averse to the religion of Abraham except one who makes a fool of himself. And We had chosen him in this world, and indeed he, in the Hereafter, will be among the righteous." (Al-Baqarah, 130) And it includes the ḥadīth of the Khawārij which has been mentioned earlier, and in it, he (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Indeed, the family of Abū so-and-so are not my allies; my allies are only the righteous." And it is also narrated from Anas: "That the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was informed that some of the Companions said: As for me, I will not eat meat, and another said: As for me, I will stand [in prayer] and not sleep, and another said: As for me, I will not marry women. And another said: As for me, I will fast and not break my fast. So he (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: But I stand [in prayer] and sleep, and I fast and break my fast, and I marry women, and I eat meat. So whoever turns away from my sunnah is not of me." Consider if some of the Companions intended to abstain for worship, and such harsh words were said about it, and their action was called turning away from the sunnah, then what do you think about other innovations, and what do you think about those who are not the Companions?
