Aḥmad ibn ʿAbbād al-Farghānī narrated to us (1): Yaʿqūb ibn Muḥammad al-Zuhrī narrated to us: al-Mughīrah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbbās narrated to us, from Khālid ibn Iyās, from Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAmr ibn Saʿīd ibn al-ʿĀṣ, from ʿUthmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥakam, from ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān, that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) prayed over ʿUthmān ibn Maẓʿūn and said four takbīrs over him.

Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq narrated to me: Yaʿqūb ibn Muḥammad narrated to us: al-Mughīrah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us, from Khālid ibn Iyās, from ʿUthmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith, from ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān, from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) similarly.

Yūsuf ibn Mūsá narrated to us: Salamah ibn al-Faḍl al-Abarash narrated to us: Ismāʿīl ibn Muslim narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Jurayj, from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khālid ibn Asīd who said: ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān sent for a man and he came to him. He said: It has reached me that you recite poetry? He said: Yes. He said: Do not do so, for I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: "It is better for one of you to have his belly filled with pus than to have it filled with poetry that burns his insides."

Muḥammad ibn Sinān narrated to me: Abū ʿĀṣim narrated to us, from ʿUthmān ibn ʿAbd al-Malik, from al-Farāfiṣah, from ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Use kohl, for it grows hair and strengthens the eyesight."
