all the misguided sects, both ancient and modern—alas, alas—and Allāh is the one whose help is sought, and there is no power nor strength except with Allāh. 15- End of ḥadīth (417). Then it became clear to me that there is no basis for al-Munāwī's weakening of al-Bayhaqī's narration in "al-Shuʿab" with (ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Marrah) the unknown; because it is based on a mistake he made regarding the name of this follower. I have reviewed its isnād in "al-Shuʿab"—which has been recently printed—and it is with him (6/489/9010) through the route of Manṣūr from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Marrah from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, raised with the wording of the ḥadīth of the chapter except for the phrase: "that he loves him," and it adds: "for he finds in him something like what he has." Its isnād is authentic, for this (ʿAbd Allāh ibn Marrah)—the Hamdānī al-Khārifī—is trustworthy without dispute, and among the narrators of the two Shaykhs, and he is not the unknown ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Marrah. From this perspective, Ibn Abī al-Dunyā also extracted it in the book "al-Ikhwān" (141/74) as one of the brothers dictated to me over the phone, may Allāh reward him well. 16- End of ḥadīth (419): Then I found a corroborating narration from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd who said: "A time will come upon people when they will eat with their tongues..." the ḥadīth. Al-Bayhaqī extracted it in "Shuʿab al-Īmān" (4/252/4977) with an authentic isnād, and it is mawqūf in the ruling of marfūʿ; because it pertains to matters of the unseen which cannot be said by opinion, and he extracted before it the ḥadīth of the chapter from the route of (Yaʿlá) only
