"Whoever asks while he has what suffices him, his asking will appear on the Day of Resurrection as scratches, cuts, or wounds on his face." It was said: "O Messenger of Allāh, what suffices him?" He said: "Fifty dirhams, or their equivalent in gold." Narrated by Abū Dāwūd (1626), al-Nasāʾī (1/363), al-Tirmidhī (1/126), al-Dārimī (1/386), Ibn Mājah (1840), al-Ṭaḥāwī (1/306), al-Ḥākim (407), Aḥmad (1/388, 441), and Ibn ʿAdī (69/1, 73/2) through the route of Ḥakīm ibn Jubayr from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd from his father from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. The context is from Ibn Mājah, and he and others added: "A man said to Sufyān: 'Indeed, Shuʿbah does not narrate from Ḥakīm ibn Jubayr.' Sufyān replied: 'Zubayd narrated it to us from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd.'" I say: Ḥakīm ibn Jubayr is weak, but the corroboration by Zubayd, who is Ibn al-Ḥārith al-Kūfī, strengthens the ḥadīth as he is reliable and trustworthy, and so are the rest of the narrators. Thus, the isnād is authentic through the route of Zubayd. Al-Tirmidhī said: "A good ḥadīth."
