then al-Ḥāfiẓ al-ʿIrāqī said in his "Takhrīj": "It was narrated by Abū Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī, and Ibn Ḥibbān from the ḥadīth of Jābir with a good isnād." I said: Attributing it to al-Tirmidhī is a mistake, and it may have come from the scribe or the printer, as he attributed it to the compilers using symbols, and he symbolized al-Tirmidhī among them with the letter (ت), which was misread by the scribe or others as (ن), which is al-Nasāʾī, and I have learned that he reported it in a shortened form. Furthermore, in the ḥadīth of Jābir, as reported by any of its compilers, there is no mention of the beard at all, nor the statement: "Does one of you enter as if he is a devil?" Rather, this was mentioned in the ḥadīth of ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār who said: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was in the mosque, and a man with disheveled hair and beard entered, so the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) gestured to him with his hand: to go out, as if meaning to fix the hair of his head and beard. The man did so, then returned, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: This is better than one of you coming with disheveled hair as if he is a devil." It was narrated by Mālik in "al-Muwaṭṭaʾ" (2/949/7) with a sound isnād, but it is mursal.

- "Indeed, there will be days of patience after you, during which the one who holds fast to what you are upon will have the reward of fifty of you." They said: "O Prophet of Allāh, or fifty of them?" He said: "Rather, fifty of you." It was narrated by Ibn Naṣr in "al-Sunnah" (p. 9) through the route of Ibrāhīm ibn Abī ʿAblah from ʿUtbah ibn Ghazwān, the brother of Banū Māzin ibn Ṣaʿṣaʿah, who was among the Companions - that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. I said: Its isnād is sound, all its narrators are trustworthy, except that the narration of Ibrāhīm ibn Abī ʿAblah from ʿUtbah ibn Ghazwān is mursal as mentioned in "al-Tahdhīb"
