(al-aqmāʿ) with the hamzah open, is the plural of (qamaʿ) with the qāf broken and the mīm open, which can also be still: it is the vessel placed at the top of a container to fill it with liquid. The listening of those who hear the words but do not comprehend or act upon them is likened to the aqmāʿ, which do not retain anything poured into them, as if it passes through them just as a drink passes through a funnel. Likewise, al-Zamakhsharī said: metaphorically, "Woe to the funnels of speech," referring to those who listen but do not comprehend.

"He who does not show mercy will not be shown mercy, and he who does not forgive will not be forgiven, and he who does not repent will not have repentance accepted for him." It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (1/180/1) and Abū al-Ḥasan al-Ḥarbī in "al-Fawāʾid al-Muntaqā" (3/155/1) from Hārūn ibn Zayd ibn Abī al-Zarqāʾ, who said: My father narrated to me, al-Mufaḍḍal ibn Ṣadaqah Abū Ḥammād al-Kūfī informed us from Ziyād (ibn ʿIlāqah), who said: I heard Jarīr say: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād's narrators are trustworthy except for al-Mufaḍḍal ibn Ṣadaqah, about whom there is disagreement. Ibn Maʿīn said: He is nothing.
