from the path of Jarīr from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr from Jābir ibn Samurah who said: "ʿUmar addressed the people at al-Jābiyah and said: Indeed, the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) stood in a position like mine and said," and he mentioned it. The narration is according to Aḥmad. This isnād is authentic; its men are the men of the six [canonical collections]. Al-Ḥākim indicated in "al-Mustadrak" (1/114) that there is a defect in it, but he did not mention it. Perhaps it is what was said about ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr regarding confusion and changes in his memory. However, the ḥadīth is authentic, as it has come through other paths. It was also extracted by Aḥmad (1/114), al-Tirmidhī (3/207 - Tuḥfah), and al-Ḥākim who authenticated it, and al-Bayhaqī (7/91) from the path of ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak, who informed us from Muḥammad ibn Sūqah from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dīnār from Ibn ʿUmar that ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb addressed at al-Jābiyah and said, and he mentioned it. Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the conditions of the two Shaykhs," and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. And it is as they said. Then al-Ḥākim said: "And we have narrated it with an authentic isnād from Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ from ʿUmar (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu)." Then he presented it from the path of Muḥammad ibn Muhājir ibn Mismār who reported from his father from ʿĀmir ibn Saʿd from his father who said ʿUmar stood at al-Jābiyah and said: May Allāh have mercy on a man who hears my words and retains them. I saw the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) standing among us as I am standing among you, then he said, and he mentioned it. Al-Dhahabī said, "And this is authentic." I said: And Muḥammad ibn Muhājir ibn Mismār, I did not find anyone who mentioned him unless he is Muḥammad ibn Muhājir al-Qurashī, for he is lenient as in "al-Taqrīb."
