and the other: that Mūsá ibn Masʿūd, despite being one of the teachers of al-Bukhārī in his Ṣaḥīḥ, has weakness in his memory. al-Dhahabī said in "al-Mīzān": "Truthful, if Allāh wills, but he makes mistakes; Aḥmad spoke about him, and al-Tirmidhī weakened him. Ibn Khuzaymah said: "He is not relied upon..." al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful, but poor in memory, and he used to make errors." He was followed by Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUlayyah and others according to Ibn Abī al-Dunyā, so we are assured of his poor memory. However, the ḥadīth has a supporting narration, reported by ʿAlī ibn Zayd from al-Ḥasan from al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Sufyān al-Kilābī that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to him: "O Ḍaḥḥāk, what is your food?" He said: "O Messenger of Allāh, meat and milk." He said: "Then what does it become?" He said: "To what you already know." He said: "Indeed, Allāh has made what comes out of the son of Adam a parable for the world." It was recorded by Aḥmad (3/452) and Ibn Abī al-Dunyā from Ḥammād ibn Zayd from ʿAlī ibn Zayd. al-Mundhirī said (4/102): "Aḥmad narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Ṣaḥīḥ except for ʿAlī ibn Zayd ibn Judʿān."
