"Muʿāwiyah came out and saw them standing for his arrival, so he said to them: Sit down, for the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Whoever is pleased that the children of Adam stand for him, the Fire is obligatory for him." I said: This isnād is authentic; all its narrators are reliable, the men of Muslim, except for the shaykh of al-Mukhlis, ʿAbd Allāh, who is the ḥāfiẓ Abū al-Qāsim al-Baghawī, and Mughīrah ibn Muslim al-Sarrāj, both of whom are reliable without dispute. Dāwūd is Ibn Rashīd, and Marwān is Ibn Muʿāwiyah al-Fazārī al-Kūfī, the ḥāfiẓ. He was followed by Shabābah ibn Sawwār, who narrated to me from al-Mughīrah ibn Muslim with it, except that he said: "Whoever loves that men stand for him..." and the rest is similar. It was recorded by al-Ṭaḥāwī (2/38-39) and al-Khaṭīb in "Tārīkh Baghdād" (13/193). And the ḥadīth has with him (11/361) a supporting mursal in an interesting story, recorded from the path of ʿAbd al-Razzāq ibn Sulaymān ibn ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd, who said: I heard my father say: "When al-Maʾmūn summoned the jewelers and debated with them over goods they had, then al-Maʾmūn rose for some of his needs, then came out, and everyone in the gathering stood except Ibn al-Jaʿd, who did not stand. He said: al-Maʾmūn looked at him as if angry, then took him aside and said to him: O Shaykh, what prevented you from standing for me as your companions did? He said: I revered the Commander of the Faithful for the ḥadīth we narrate from the Prophet ﷺ. He said: And what is it? ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd said: I heard al-Mubārak ibn Faḍālah say: I heard al-Ḥasan say the Prophet ﷺ said: (and he mentioned it with the first wording). He said: al-Maʾmūn pondered the ḥadīth, then raised his head and said: Only buy from this shaykh. He said: So he bought from him that day for the value of thirty thousand dinars." I said: And the saying of Allāh ﷿ is true regarding ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd (and he is a reliable and firm narrator): (And whoever fears Allāh, He will make a way out for him, and provide for him from where he does not expect) (Sūrah al-Ṭalāq, verses 2-3)
"خرج معاوية فرآهم قياما لخروجه، فقال لهم: اجلسوا فإن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: من سره أن يقوم له بنو آدم، وجبت له النار". قلت: وهذا إسناد صحيح رجاله كلهم ثقات رجال مسلم غير شيخ المخلص عبد الله، وهو الحافظ أبو القاسم البغوي، ومغيرة بن مسلم السراج وهما ثقتان بلا خلاف وداود هو ابن رشيد، ومروان هو ابن معاوية الفزاري الكوفي الحافظ. وقد تابعه شبابة بن سوار حدثني المغيرة بن مسلم به إلا أنه قال: "من أحب أن يستجم له الرجال ..." والباقي مثله. أخرجه الطحاوي (٢ / ٣٨ - ٣٩) والخطيب في "تاريخ بغداد" (١٣ / ١٩٣). وللحديث عنده (١١ / ٣٦١) شاهد مرسل في قصة طريفة، أخرجه من طريق عبد الرزاق بن سليمان بن علي بن الجعد قال: سمعت أبي يقول: "لما أحضر المأمون أصحاب الجوهر، فناظرهم على متاع كان معهم، ثم نهض المأمون لبعض حاجته، ثم خرج، فقام كل من كان في المجلس إلا ابن الجعد، فإنه لم يقم، قال: فنظر إليه المأمون كهيئة المغضب، ثم استخلاه فقال له: يا شيخ ما منعك أن تقوم لي كما قام أصحابك؟ قال: أجللت أمير المؤمنين للحديث الذي نأثره عن النبي ﷺ، قال: وما هو؟ قال علي بن الجعد: سمعت المبارك بن فضالة يقول: سمعت الحسن يقول قال النبي ﷺ: (فذكره باللفظ الأول) قال: فأطرق المأمون متفكرا في الحديث، ثم رفع رأسه فقال: لا يشترى إلا من هذا الشيخ، قال: فاشترى منه في ذلك اليوم بقيمة ثلاثين ألف دينار". قلت: فصدق في علي بن الجعد (وهو ثقة ثبت) قول الله ﷿: (ومن يتق الله يجعل له مخرجا، ويرزقه من حيث لا يحتسب).
