"Do not swear by your fathers (in another narration: by anything other than Allāh), and when you are alone, do not face the qiblah nor turn your backs to it, and do not cleanse yourselves with bones or dung." It was recorded by al-Ḥākim in "al-Mustadrak" (3/412) - and the context is his -, and by Aḥmad (3/487) - and the other narration is his -, both through the route of Ibn Jurayj: ʿAbd al-Karīm ibn Abī al-Mukhāriq informed me from al-Walīd ibn Mālik - a man from ʿAbd al-Qays - from Muḥammad ibn Qays - the client of Sahl ibn Ḥunayf - from Sahl ibn Ḥunayf that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) told him, saying: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to me: "You are my messenger to Makkah; convey my greetings of peace to them, and tell them: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) commands you with three things: ..." and he mentioned the ḥadīth. It was narrated by al-Dārimī (1/172) in a summarized form, mentioning only the last sentence of the three. I say: This isnād is weak, filled with defects: The first: ʿAbd al-Karīm ibn Abī al-Mukhāriq; he is weak, as the ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb". The second: al-Walīd ibn Mālik - who is the son of ʿAbbād ibn Ḥunayf al-Anṣārī -, no one narrated from him except ʿAbd al-Karīm ibn Abī al-Mukhāriq; therefore, al-Ḥusaynī said about him: "Unknown, not well-known." And the ḥāfiẓ affirmed this in "Taʿjīl al-Manfaʿah" (432/1155). It is astonishing from Ibn Ḥibbān; for he mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (7/552) from the narration of this ʿAbd al-Karīm about him, and he said in the biography of ʿAbd al-Karīm from "his weak narrators":
