"The most usurious of usury is a person extending himself in the reputation of his brother." Narrated by al-Bazzār (3569), Ibn ʿAdī (311/2), al-Bayhaqī in "al-Shuʿab" (2/309/1), and Abū Bakr al-Shīrāzī in "Sabʿat Majālis min al-Amālī" (7/2) from al-Nuʿmān ibn Rāshid from al-Zuhrī from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib from Abū Hurayrah as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. And it was said: Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "No one said: from al-Zuhrī from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib from Abū Hurayrah except al-Nuʿmān!" And Ibn ʿAdī said: "Most of what he narrates is not followed by the trustworthy!" Thus he said! And he is disputed over, and Muslim included him, and the closest statement about him is al-Nasāʾī's: "Truthful, but weak." Therefore, it was said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful but poor in memory." Al-Bazzār said afterward: "We do not know anyone who narrated from al-Zuhrī except al-Nuʿmān, and a group narrated from him collectively, among them Ibn Jurayj, Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim, and Wahb ibn Khālid." I said: And it has been narrated through other chains from Abū Hurayrah: the first: from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Saʿīd al-Maqbarī from his father (and in another narration: from his grandfather) from him.
