A group disagreed with him regarding its isnād and did not mention the man in it, which is correct. Among them is al-Walīd ibn Muslim who said: Thawr ibn Yazīd narrated to us from Khālid ibn Maʿdān from Abū Hurayrah. It was extracted by al-Ḥākim (1/21) through the route of Muḥammad ibn Abī al-Sarī al-ʿAsqalānī, narrated to us by al-Walīd ibn Muslim. He said: This ḥadīth is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī, for he narrated from Muḥammad ibn Khalaf al-ʿAsqalānī, and Thawr ibn Yazīd al-Shāmī was accepted. As for the hearing of Khālid ibn Maʿdān from Abū Hurayrah, it is not improbable. Al-Walīd ibn Muslim narrated from Thawr ibn Yazīd from him that he said: I met seventeen men from the Companions of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). I said: Al-Ḥākim's mind shifted from Muḥammad ibn Abī al-Sarī al-ʿAsqalānī to Muḥammad ibn Khalaf al-ʿAsqalānī, although Ibn Khalaf has no connection to this ḥadīth, as al-Bukhārī did not narrate from him. The one related to the ḥadīth is Ibn Abī al-Sarī as explicitly stated in its isnād, and he is weak, being Muḥammad ibn al-Mutawakkil ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Abū ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī al-Sarī.
