"this is mursal or muʿḍal, and it has a corroborating narration from the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah, which was recorded by al-Bayhaqī in "al-Shuʿab".... "; referring to his previously mentioned ḥadīth. Then he said: "Ibn ʿAdī recorded with a weak chain from Abū Hurayrah, who reported it: 'If you see an omen, proceed, and place your trust in Allāh' ... ". Among what supports this third statement—besides what has been mentioned—is the ḥadīth of Ibn Masʿūd that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Superstition is shirk, and none of us is free from it... but Allāh removes it through trust in Him." It was narrated by the authors of "al-Sunan" and others, and authenticated by a group, and it is referenced earlier under number (429), and in "Ghayat al-Maram" (186/303). As for the last statement: "And when you weigh, give more weight"; it was previously mentioned that it was narrated by Ibn Mājah, and it is in his "Sunan" (2222), and its chain is authentic according to the conditions of al-Bukhārī, as stated by al-Būṣīrī. It also has, with him and other authors of "al-Sunan", a corroborating narration from the ḥadīth of Suwayd ibn Qays, reported similarly; authenticated by al-Tirmidhī, al-Ḥākim, and al-Dhahabī; and it is as they said. The statement of the commentator on "Akhlaq al-Nabī (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)" (p. 105/ Dār al-Kitāb al-ʿArabī): "And the ḥadīth is not authentic"! This is a clear ignorance, and from his comments, it seems the man knows nothing of this science! And what confirms this is his statement—commenting on the ḥadīth ".. so the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) lifted two stones from his stomach" (p. 223) —: "For his saying (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): 'We are a people who do not eat until we are hungry, and when we eat, we do not fill ourselves' ... "!
