I said: I had no food except the water of Zamzam, and I became so full that the folds of my stomach broke apart, and I did not feel the pangs of hunger in my liver. He said: ... and he mentioned it. Then Abū Bakr said: O Messenger of Allāh! Allow me to provide him with food tonight?! So the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and Abū Bakr set out, and I went with them. Abū Bakr opened a door and began to scoop for us from the raisins of al-Ṭāʾif. That was the first food I ate there, then I stayed as long as I stayed, then I came to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and he said: "A land with palm trees has been directed to me, and I do not see it as anything but Yathrib; will you convey to your people from me, perhaps Allāh will benefit them through you and your reward among them." So I came to Anīs, and he said: What have you done? I said: I have accepted Islam and believed. He said: I have no desire to deviate from your religion; for I have accepted Islam and believed. Then we came to our mother and she said: I have no desire to deviate from your religion, for I have accepted Islam and believed. So we carried on until we reached our people, the tribe of Ghifār, and half of them accepted Islam. Their leader, Imāʾ ibn Raḥḍah al-Ghifārī, led them in prayer. The other half said: When the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) arrives in Madīnah, we will accept Islam. When the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) arrived in Madīnah, the remaining half accepted Islam. The tribe of Aslam came and said: O Messenger of Allāh! Our brothers; we accept Islam on what they accepted! So they accepted Islam, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Ghifār, may Allāh forgive them, and Aslam, may Allāh grant them safety." A group narrated it from Ḥumayd, both in extended and abridged forms: the first of them was Khālid al-Ḥadhāʾ: and it is the narration of Muslim mentioned earlier. It was also narrated by al-Bazzār in his "Musnad" (1171) with the wording: "Zamzam: food that satisfies and a cure for illness," and by al-Fākihī in "Akhbār Makkah" (1080) with the wording: "It is food that satisfies and a cure for illness."
