"If the Quran were placed in a leather cover and then thrown into the fire, it would not burn." This was narrated by al-Dārimī in "his Sunan" (2/430), al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Mushkil al-Āthār" (1/390), Aḥmad (4/151), Abū al-Qāsim ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥakam in "Futūḥ Miṣr" (288), Abū Yaʿlá in "his Musnad" (3/284/1745), al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (17/308), Ibn ʿAdī in "al-Kāmil" (6/469), and al-Bayhaqī in "al-Shuʿab" (2/554/2699) and in "al-Asmāʾ wa-al-Ṣifāt" (264); they narrated it through various chains, including: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd al-Muqriʾ from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Lahīʿah from Musharḥ ibn Hāʿān from ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir who said the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): ... and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is good, its narrators are trustworthy; despite a weakness in Musharḥ ibn Hāʿān; as I clarified in "Taysīr al-Intifāʿ", refuting the statement of al-Ḥāfiẓ about him: "acceptable"! Ibn ʿAdī said about him: "truthful, no harm in him." And ʿAbd Allāh ibn Lahīʿah here is sound in ḥadīth; as is known from his biography, al-Haythamī overlooked this fact and criticized it because of him. He said (7/158): "Narrated by Aḥmad, Abū Yaʿlá, and al-Ṭabarānī, and in it is Ibn Lahīʿah, and there is disagreement about him!" This was conveyed by brother Ḥusayn in his commentary on "Musnad Abī Yaʿlá" and he agreed! Rather, he explicitly stated at the beginning of the takhrīj:
