that he went on an expedition with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) towards Najd. When the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) returned, he returned with him. They were overtaken by the midday rest in a valley full of thorny trees. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) dismounted, and the people scattered among the thorny trees to seek shade. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) settled under a samurah tree and hung his sword on it. Jābir said: We fell into a deep sleep, and then the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) called us. We came to him and found an Arab sitting with him. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned the ḥadīth, adding that al-Bukhārī and others reported: Then the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) did not punish him. *
(Indeed, this one cried for what it missed of the remembrance). It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (2095 and 3584), Aḥmad (3/300), and al-Bayhaqī in "Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah" (2/560) through the route of ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Ayman from his father, from Jābir, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) used to deliver the khuṭbah leaning on the trunk of a palm tree. A woman from the Anṣār, who had a carpenter slave, said: O Messenger of Allāh! I have a carpenter slave; should I instruct him to make a pulpit for you to deliver the khuṭbah on? He said: "Yes." So, he made a pulpit for him. When Friday came, he delivered the khuṭbah on the pulpit. He said: The trunk on which he used to stand moaned like a child. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned the ḥadīth. The context is from Aḥmad. *

It was recorded by Muslim (3/147-148) and al-Bayhaqī in "al-Sunan" (4/290) through the route of al-Walīd ibn Kathīr: Nāfiʿ told me that ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhumā) told him that he heard
