"I arrived in al-Raqqah, and some of my companions said to me: Do you want to meet a man from the Companions of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)? I said: A great opportunity, so we went to Wābiṣah. I said to my companion: Let us begin by observing his demeanor. We found him wearing a low cap with two ears and a dusty woolen cloak, and he was leaning on a staff during his prayer. We said to him after we greeted him: He said: Umm Qays bint Miḥṣan told me: 'When the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) grew old...'" I said: This isnād has all trustworthy men except for ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Wābiṣī, the father of ʿAbd al-Salām, whose father's name is Ṣakhr ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān. ʿAbd al-Ḥaqq al-Ishbīlī said in "al-Aḥkām" (no. 1389 - my edition): "He was the judge of Aleppo and al-Raqqah, and I do not know anyone who narrated from him except his son ʿAbd al-Salām." I said: Therefore, al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar said about him in "al-Taqrīb": "Unknown." And I say: But he was not alone in narrating it, for he was followed by Ibrāhīm ibn Isḥāq al-Zuhrī who narrated to us from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Mūsá who was informed by Shaybān ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān about it. It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (1/264-265) and by al-Bayhaqī (2/288). Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs" and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I said: But it is only according to the criteria of Muslim alone, for Hilāl ibn Yasāf was not used by al-Bukhārī in "his Ṣaḥīḥ," but he only narrated from him in a suspended form. Then I reconsidered and said: It is not according to the criteria of Muslim either, because ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Mūsá, who is Abū Muḥammad al-ʿAbsī, although Muslim used him, he is not among his teachers, but rather he narrated from him indirectly, and the one narrating from him here, Ibrāhīm ibn Isḥāq al-Zuhrī, was not narrated by Muslim
