then his statement: "and al-nahk: exaggeration in everything" is a strange contradiction and a scribal error! I have also seen it in the aforementioned ḥadīth in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" by al-Haythamī! Perhaps he imitated it, or it appeared that way in their original copies, but it is certainly not so. Rather, it is: "latanhakanna" or: "latanhakannāhā" without another tāʾ and with the hāʾ open, derived from (al-nahk) which he mentioned later. This is how it is mentioned by the linguists and those knowledgeable in rare expressions without any dispute among them. The author has repeated in "al-Jihād wa-al-Targhīb fī al-Shahādah" the explanation of (al-nahk), and he made an error in the pronunciation of his statement: "inhakū," which we have discussed thoroughly there; and Allāh is the one whose help is sought. I said: Among the oddities is the succession of many sources in this scribal error; except for "al-Targhīb" and "al-Majmaʿ"; for it also appeared in the source of the ḥadīth "al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ" in the place previously mentioned, and I mean the Ḥaramayn edition, and it is likewise in the Maʿārif edition (2695), and in the photocopied version I have of it (1/1150/2832) with my numbering but with the tāʾ below: "lintehkin" or: "lintehkinhā," and so it is in the suspended narration in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr." However, it is correctly found in "Majmaʿ al-Baḥrayn" (1/340 - edited by ʿAbd al-Quddūs Nadhīr), and also in a manuscript version of "al-Targhīb" referred to in the footnote by the three commentators, who symbolized it with the letter (b), but due to their ignorance, they did not adopt it, so they confirmed the distorted wording; imitating what is in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid"! (Note): About forty years ago—and before I obtained the book of Ibn Abī Ḥātim "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl"—I went to weaken the ḥadīth of the translation, based on what was mentioned in the book "Tahdhīb al-Ḥāfiẓ" and "al-Taqrīb" as previously indicated, and for that reason; I did not include it in the previous editions of my book "Ṣaḥīḥ al-Targhīb wa-al-Tarhīb." And now, as we are in the process of revisiting some notebooks of its counterpart "Ḍaʿīf al-Targhīb," and the investigation in
ثم قوله: «والنهك: المبالغة في كل شيء» تناقض عجيب وتصحيف! وقد رأيته في الحديث المذكور كذلك في «مجمع الزوائد» للهيثمي! ولعله قلده أو وقع كذلك في نسختهما بالأصل، وليس كذلك بلا إشكال. وإنما هو: «لتنهكن» ، أو: «لَتَنهَكَنَّها» بلا تاء أخرى وبفتح الهاء، مأخوذة من (النَّهك) الذي ذكره بعد. وهكذا ذكره أهل اللغة والغريب بلا نزاع بينهم. وقد أعاد المصنف في «الجهاد والترغيب في الشهادة» تفسير (النهك) ، ووقع له وهم في ضبط قوله: «انهكوا» ، أشبعنا الكلام عليه هناك؛ والله المستعان» . قلت: ومن الغرائب تتابع كثير من المصادر على هذا التصحيف؛ غير «الترغيب» و «المجمع» ؛ فإنه كذلك وقع في مصدر الحديث «المعجم الأوسط» في الموضع المشار إليه آنفاً، وأعني طبعة الحرمين، وكذلك هو في طبعة المعارف (٢٦٩٥) ، وفي النسخة المصورة التي عندي منه (١/١١٥٠/٢٨٣٢) بترقيمي لكن بالمثناة من تحت:«لينتهكن» أو: «لينتهكنها» ، وهكذا هو في الرواية الموقوفة في «المعجم الكبير» . لكنه على الصواب وقع في «مجمع البحرين» (١/٣٤٠ - تحقيق عبد القدوس نذير) ، وكذلك في نسخة مخطوطة من «الترغيب» أشار إليها في الهامش المعلقون الثلاثة، ورمزوا إليها بحرف (ب) ، ولكنهم- لجهلهم- لم يتبنوها، فأثبتوا اللفظ المحرف؛ تقليداً لما في «مجمع الزوائد» ! (تنبيه) : كنت منذ نحو أربعين سنة- وقبل تحصيلي على كتاب ابن أبي حاتم «الجرح والتعديل» - ذهبت إلى تضعيف حديث الترجمة، مستنداً على ما جاء في كتاب «تهذيب الحافظ» و «التقريب» مما تقدمت الإشارة إليه، ولذلك؛ لم أودعه في الطبعات السابقة من كتابي «صحيح الترغيب والترهيب» . والآن ونحن في صدد إعادة النظر في بعض كراريس قسيمه «ضعيف الترغيب» ، والتحقيق في
