He used to teach us saying: "Do not precede the imam [in bowing and prostration]: when he says the takbīr, then say the takbīr; and when he says 'nor those who go astray,' then say: (Amīn); [for if his words coincide with the words of the angels, he will be forgiven] [for what has preceded of his sins]; and when he bows, then bow; and when he says: (Allāh hears the one who praises Him), then say: (O Allāh, our Lord! To You is the praise), [and do not raise before him], [and when he prostrates, then prostrate]." Narrated by Muslim (2/20), Abū ʿAwānah (2/121), al-Bayhaqī in his "Sunan" (2/92), and Aḥmad (2/440) through the route of al-Aʿmash from Abū Ṣāliḥ from Abū Hurayrah who said: ... and he mentioned it. Muslim alone narrated it through the route of ʿĪsá ibn Yūnus: al-Aʿmash narrated to us... and the context is his, and the other three through the route of Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd: al-Aʿmash narrated to us with it, the first addition is for Aḥmad, the second for Abū ʿAwānah, and the fifth for al-Bayhaqī. Al-Aʿmash was followed by Sumayy, the freed slave of Abū Bakr, from Abū Ṣāliḥ with it in a summarized form, and it contains the third addition and its wording: "When the imam says: 'not those who have incurred [Your] wrath, nor those who go astray,' then say: Amīn: for whoever's saying coincides with the saying of the angels; he will be forgiven for what has preceded of his sins." Narrated by al-Bukhārī (782 and 4475), al-Nasāʾī (1/147) and others. He was also followed by Suhayl ibn Abī Ṣāliḥ from his father with it in a more complete form. Also narrated by Muslim, and Abū ʿAwānah (2/144), and with them is the third addition, and with Muslim is the fourth addition
