likewise, al-Mundhirī did not notice it in "al-Targhīb" (1/152/1)! And the commentator on "Musnad Abī Yaʿlá" followed him, and the word "desert" was omitted! This... and the first part of it was recorded by Ibn Mājah (788) through another chain from Abū Muʿāwiyah. It was also recorded by al-Bukhārī (646), al-Bayhaqī (2830), "al-Sunan" (3/60), and Aḥmad (3/55) through various chains from Ibn al-Hād from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khabbāb from Abū Saʿīd. (Note): Abū Dāwūd said after the ḥadīth: "ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Ziyād said in this ḥadīth: 'The prayer of a man in the desert is multiplied over his prayer in congregation,' and he narrated the ḥadīth." I say: This is suspended; Abū Dāwūd did not attribute it to ʿAbd al-Wāḥid, and we do not know if he attributed it or left it incomplete?! Therefore, I was not comfortable including it in my book "Ṣaḥīḥ al-Targhīb" in its new edition, which is soon to be published along with the rest of the book and its counterpart "Ḍaʿīf al-Targhīb," if Allāh wills. Scholars have differed regarding his statement in the ḥadīth of the chapter: "And if he prays it in a desert land..." Does it mean in congregation, as the ḥadīth apparently suggests?! Or individually, as is explicitly stated in ʿAbd al-Wāḥid's narration?! Al-Shawkānī leaned towards this in "Nayl al-Awṭār," contrary to al-Ḥāfiẓ in "al-Fatḥ" (2/134-135). Strangely, he remained silent about the mentioned narration, and you know what it contains!! *
