and it is narrated from al-Dāraqutnī that he was asked about him, and he said: "Trustworthy." The ḥadīth is a portion of a long ḥadīth that Imām Aḥmad included in "al-Musnad." He said (6/16): ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated it to us. And he said (4/333): ʿAffān—from his book—said: Sulaimān—meaning: Ibn al-Mughīrah—narrated it to us in its entirety, and it is included in "al-Ṣaḥīḥah" under number (2459).

(When the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) conquered Mecca, Iblīs wailed a cry that gathered his troops to him, and he said: "Despair of seeing the nation of Muḥammad return to polytheism after this day of yours! But lead them astray in their religion, and spread lamentation among them.") It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (12/11/12318): ʿAbdān ibn Aḥmad narrated to us: ʿAmr ibn al-ʿAbbās al-Rāzī narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us: Yaʿqūb al-Qummī from Jaʿfar ibn Abī al-Mughīrah from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr from Ibn ʿAbbās (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) said: ... and he mentioned it. And through the route of al-Ṭabarānī, it was narrated by al-Ḍiyāʾ in "al-Mukhtārah" (59/12/1), which implies that it is at least ḥasan according to him, and it is likewise according to me; except that ʿAmr ibn al-ʿAbbās al-Rāzī is somewhat unknown; for I did not find a biography for him; except that Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "Thiqāt" (8/486) from the narration of this ʿAbdān—who is al-Jawālīqī the ḥāfiẓ—and Ibn Ḥibbān's principle in authenticating the unknown is well-known, yet he said about him: "He might contradict." If it becomes clear that this al-Rāzī has a corroborator, then it will be transferred to "al-Ṣaḥīḥah." And Allāh knows best
