with a good deed; then repay him. If you cannot repay him, then pray for him until you feel that you have repaid him." It was narrated by Abū Dāwūd and others, and its documentation was previously mentioned under number (254). I say: there is no contradiction, as this can be applied to what does not involve intercession, or to what is not an obligatory need. And Allāh knows best. (Note): Ibn al-Jawzī was excessive and extreme in his statement about weakening this ḥadīth and his statement in "al-ʿIlal" (2/268): "ʿUbayd Allāh is weak and significant, and al-Qāsim is even weaker than him"! I say: ʿUbayd Allāh was deemed reliable by the majority, and Aḥmad's statement about him: "he is not strong" does not mean he is weak, but rather that his ḥadīth is not ṣaḥīḥ, but ḥasan; as evidenced by his statement in another narration: "there is no harm in him," and for this reason, al-Dhahabī mentioned him in "al-Mutakallim Fīhim bimā Lā Yūjib al-Radd" (142/225), and it is sufficient that the two Shaykhs used him as evidence. As for al-Qāsim, he is moderate as previously mentioned. *

(When they were frightened, they would resort to prayer, meaning: the prophets). It was recorded by Abū Bakr al-Ismāʿīlī in "al-Muʿjam" (folios 33/2 - 34/1): Muḥammad ibn al-Sarī narrated to us: Aḥmad ibn Ibrāhīm al-Dawraqī narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated from Sulaymān ibn al-Mughīrah from Thābit from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā from Ṣuhayb from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) who said: ... and he mentioned it. I say: this isnād is ṣaḥīḥ, all its men are trustworthy, the men of Muslim; except for Muḥammad ibn al-Sarī—who is Ibn Sahl al-Qanṭarī Abū Bakr—, al-Khaṭīb translated him in "al-Tārīkh" (5/318),
