2 - and it is objected to this: that al-Nasāʾī narrated it (7276) through the route of Ibn al-Mubārak, and al-Bayhaqī through the route of Sulaymān ibn Bilāl, both from Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir: that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to a man from Aslam ... the ḥadīth is mursal. Al-Bayhaqī said: "This is more authentic than what came before." I said: And they added except for Aḥmad: He said: Yaḥyá, so I narrated this ḥadīth in a gathering in which Yazīd ibn Naʿīm ibn Huzāl al-Aslamī was present, and he said: Huzāl is my grandfather, and this ḥadīth is true. 3 - Mālik narrated it in "al-Muwaṭṭaʾ" (3/39) from Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib that he said: It reached me that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to a man from Aslam — called Huzāl —: O Huzāl! If you had covered him with your garment, it would have been better for you. Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd said ... and he mentioned it as in the narration of the three from him. Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr said afterward: "There is no disagreement in its isnād in 'al-Muwaṭṭaʾ' on the mursal; as you see, it is musnad from authentic routes"! Thus he said! And there is nothing in any of the aforementioned routes that is a correct musnad as previously explained in arrangement and verification; you may not see it elsewhere, except for the first route; it is good based on the previous disagreement regarding the companionship of Naʿīm ibn Huzāl and the uniqueness of his son
