"because I put them on while they were pure." This isnād is weak due to the anonymity of the client of Abū Hurayrah and the disagreement over the reliability of the narrator from him, Abān ibn ʿAbd Allāh, who is al-Bajalī al-Kūfī. The ḥāfiẓ said: "He is truthful but has weak memory." Thus, his ḥadīth is considered ḥasan. Al-Haythamī criticized it based on the first [isnād], saying (1/254): "It was narrated by Aḥmad, and there is a man in it who is not named." There is another shorter route for it, narrated by ʿAbd al-Ḥakam ibn Maysarah from Qays ibn al-Rabīʿ from Hishām ibn Ḥassān from Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn from Abū Hurayrah, who said: I saw the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) perform ablution, wipe over his turban, and wipe over his leather socks. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ" (3/32/2054), and he said: "No one narrated it from Hishām except Qays, and ʿAbd al-Ḥakam ibn Maysarah was the only one to report it." I said: Al-Haythamī also criticized it, saying: ".. and it is weak." I said: And Qays ibn al-Rabīʿ is weak. The second observation: Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr paired ʿĀʾishah with Abū Hurayrah; this is questionable, as it is authentically reported from her that she said: It is more beloved to me to cut them or cut my fingers with a knife than to wipe over them
