he said (362-al-Rawḍ): "Ibrāhīm ibn Ṣāliḥ al-Shīrāzī narrated to us—in Mecca in the year two hundred and eighty-three, and in that year he died—: Ḥajjāj ibn Naṣīr narrated to us... etc. It seems to me that he is not one of his well-known teachers, as he rarely narrates from him. He only narrated one ḥadīth from him in "al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ" (3/447/2959), and two ḥadīths in "al-Duʿāʾ" (numbers 160 and 1141). However, it appears that the ḥadīth is known from (ʿUthmān ibn al-Haytham); for some of the ḥadīth scholars have attributed it to him. Ibn Abī Ḥātim said in "al-ʿIlal" (1/353/1041): "I asked my father about a ḥadīth narrated by ʿUthmān the muezzin from his father... and he mentioned it." My father said: "Ḥammād narrated it from ʿĀṣim from Abū Wāʾil... that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). I asked my father: Which one is correct? He said: al-Haytham ibn Juhm has been corroborated in this narration as connected." Similarly, Imām al-Dāraqutnī attributed it, saying in "al-ʿIlal" (5/58)—after mentioning it through the route of Isḥāq ibn Abī Isrāʾīl from Ḥammād from ʿĀṣim from Zirr from ʿAbd Allāh as a mawqūf narration—: "It was narrated by Zāʾidah and Haytham ibn Juhm al-Baṣrī—the father of ʿUthmān ibn al-Haytham the muezzin; trustworthy, there is no harm in him (1)—from ʿĀṣim from Abū Wāʾil from ʿAbd Allāh as a marfūʿ narration. Perhaps ʿĀṣim preserved it from both of them. And Allāh knows best." The ḥadīth's isnād was authenticated by Shaykh Aḥmad Shākir (may Allāh have mercy on him) in his commentary on "al-Musnad" (6/40), and he said:
