al-Azdī, and ending with al-ʿAsqalānī; al-Dhahabī mentioned in "Mīzānuhu" (Zakariyyā ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd al-Ṣuhbānī), and said: "Yaḥyá al-Ḥammānī narrated from him, al-Azdī said: 'His ḥadīth is objectionable.'" al-ʿAsqalānī confirmed this in "al-Lisān"; and added to it, saying: "He [meaning al-Azdī] narrated from Zur ibn Ḥubaysh..." I said: So he narrated the ḥadīth! This is quite strange that Aḥmad's narration from the path of Ṭalq ibn ʿAlī was hidden from them on one hand, and Ibn Abī Ḥātim's biography of this Zakariyyā with narrations from a group about him—as mentioned earlier—on the other hand, so al-Azdī's statement about him: "His ḥadīth is objectionable" should not be considered; because it is a misconception arising from his lack of awareness of the narrations of the trustworthy and those referred to about (Zakariyyā), and his assumption that only (Yaḥyá al-Ḥammānī) narrated from him; especially since he is known for being excessively harsh in his criticism!! And Allāh knows best.

(The hardness of hearts and harshness are in the East, and faith is among the people of Ḥijāz). It is from the ḥadīth of Jābir (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu), and there are several paths from him: the first is from Abū al-Zubayr who heard Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh say: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said... and he mentioned it. It was recorded by Muslim (1/53), Abū ʿAwānah (1/60), Ibn Ḥibbān (9/204/7252), and Aḥmad in "al-Musnad" (3/335) and "Faḍāʾil al-Ṣaḥābah" (2/863/1611) from the path of Ibn Jurayj who said: Abū al-Zubayr informed me of it. Mūsá ibn ʿUqbah followed him from Abū al-Zubayr from Jābir with it; except that he said:
