we went out on the day the army of Ibn Duljah entered the city a year after the incident of al-Ḥarrah. He entered the city until he appeared at the pulpit, and the people were alarmed. We went out with Jābir to al-Ḥarrah; his sight had gone, and a stone struck him. He said, "May Allāh make fearful the one who frightened the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)!" He said it two or three times before we asked him, so we said, "O father, who frightened the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)?!" He said, "I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: ..." and he mentioned it. And he said, "This ḥadīth is not narrated from Muḥammad and Maḥmūd, the sons of Jābir, except with this isnād; Mūsá ibn Shaybah is its sole narrator." I said: He is lenient in ḥadīth, as in "al-Taqrīb," but he is a good witness for the ḥadīth of Ṭālib ibn Ḥabīb. And Muḥammad and Maḥmūd were mentioned by Ibn Ḥibbān in "al-Thiqāt," as previously mentioned under ḥadīth (2304), so one strengthens the other. It was also narrated by al-Bukhārī (1/1/53/110) and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" (2/54-55/1093), as well as Aḥmad in "Faḍāʾil al-Ṣaḥābah" (2/794/1421) through the route of Yaḥyá ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Anas Abū Zakarīyā al-Anṣārī, who said: Muḥammad ibn Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr al-Anṣārī narrated to me from his father Jābir, raised like the ḥadīth of the chapter. Al-Haythamī said in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (10/38): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Awsaṭ,' and al-Bazzār, and the men of al-Bazzār are the men of 'al-Ṣaḥīḥ,' except for Ṭālib ibn Ḥabīb, and he is trustworthy, and Aḥmad narrated similarly except he said: 'Whoever frightened the people of Madīnah ...,' and the men of Aḥmad are the men of (al-Ṣaḥīḥ)." I said: The wording of Aḥmad has a broken isnād as I have explained in the place indicated above
