they would not be able to benefit from them due to their ignorance of this knowledge; they are merely imitators and transmitters. And this is the evidence before you: the isnād of Abū Dāwūd is as clear as the sun, yet they were ignorant of it. When they mistakenly thought it was in "Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān," they hesitated in their judgment of it; neither did they authenticate it, nor did they weaken it, and they said: "ḥasan with its corroborations"!! Half solutions. And this is what is prevalent among them: this grading or the grading in general for much that is authentic and much that is weak upon investigation; as a cover for their ignorance! And Allāh's help is sought. *******

- (I have not seen anyone more miserly than you, except the one who is stingy with greetings). It was narrated by Aḥmad in "his Musnad" (3/328): Abū ʿĀmir al-ʿAqadī narrated to us: Zuhair narrated from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl from Jābir: A man came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: So-and-so has a date palm in my garden, and it has harmed me and caused me distress due to its location. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) sent for him and said: "Sell me your date palm that is in so-and-so's garden." He said: No. He said: "Then give it to me as a gift." He said: No. He said: "Sell it to me for a date palm in Paradise." He said: No. So the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it.
