al-Kalbī: al-Aʿmash narrated to me from Abū Tamīmah from Jundub ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Azdī, a Companion of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), who said: I went with him to al-Baṣrah until we reached a place called "Bayt al-Miskīn," which is to al-Baṣrah like "al-Thawiyyah" is to al-Kūfah. He said: Have you been studying the Qurʾān with anyone? I said: Yes. He said: When we reach al-Baṣrah, bring them to me. So I brought Ṣāliḥ ibn Musarraḥ, Abū Bilāl, Najdah, and Nāfiʿ ibn al-Azraq, who were, in my view at that time, among the best people of al-Baṣrah. He then began to narrate to me from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). Jundub said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "The example of a scholar who teaches people good while forgetting himself is like a lamp that illuminates for people while burning itself." The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) also said: "Let not any of you be prevented from entering Paradise, while he looks at its gates, by the amount of a handful of a Muslim's blood that he unjustly shed." He said: The people spoke, mentioning enjoining good and forbidding evil, while he remained silent, listening to them. Then he said: I have never seen a group more deserving of salvation today if they are truthful. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (2/178/1681). I said: This isnād is good, and al-Mundhirī considered it ḥasan in "al-Targhīb" (1/77/13). Its narrators are trustworthy, from the narrators of al-Bukhārī, except for ʿAlī ibn Sulaymān al-Kalbī, who is trustworthy, as declared by Hishām ibn ʿAmmār. Abū Ḥātim said:
