that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) stood only because of the funeral of a Jew that passed by him, and he said: "The stench of it offends me." I said: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, and Ḥusayn is the son of ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, the grandfather of Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī, the narrator from him, known as Abū Jaʿfar al-Bāqir. And the ḥadīth was mentioned by al-Haythamī (3/28): "It was narrated by Aḥmad—and al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Awsaṭ' in a similar manner—and its men are the men of the authentic [collections]." I said: And you know that the isnād of 'al-Awsaṭ' is nothing, so reliance is on the isnād of Aḥmad. It has a supporting narration from the ḥadīth of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAyāsh ibn Abī Rabīʿah who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) did not stand for that funeral except that it was Jewish, and when the smell of its incense reached him, he stood until he passed it. This is how al-Haythamī mentioned it, and he said: "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Kabīr', and in it is Abū ʿAmr al-Sadūsī, and no one narrated from him except Abū ʿĀmir al-ʿAqdī, and the rest of its men are trustworthy." I said: al-Ḥāfiẓ said about Abū ʿAmr al-Sadūsī: "He is Saʿīd ibn Salamah ibn Abī al-Ḥassām; otherwise, he is unknown." I said: This Saʿīd is among the men of Muslim, and he is weak, and until it is clarified that it is him; he remains unknown, and the aforementioned statement of al-Haythamī indicates that, and Allāh knows best. And the Musnad of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAyāsh ibn Abī Rabīʿah from 'al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr' is from the section that has not been printed to my knowledge until today, and therefore I have not reviewed its isnād in it to examine
