then between Abū Fāṭimah and al-Ḥasan is Ḥawshab—who is Ibn Muslim al-Thaqafī—and he is less renowned than (Abū Fāṭimah); as Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned only three narrators from him along with Abū Fāṭimah, while six trustworthy narrators transmitted from this one, adding to the five mentioned by Ibn Abī Ḥātim (Bishr ibn al-Ḥakam) whom al-Bukhārī mentioned, and in the isnād of this ḥadīth, there is a seventh narrator from him, who is Abū ʿAtāb—Sahl ibn Ḥammād. An eighth can be added to them, who is ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAwn, as Ibn Ḥibbān said in the biography of this (Miskīn) (5/449): "He narrated from a man among the Companions, narrated from al-Ḥasan (!), and I think he is the one who narrated from ʿAlī, narrated by ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAwn." Al-Bukhārī and Ibn Abī Ḥātim differentiated between the biographee and the one who narrated from ʿAlī, and they gave him a separate biography; however, they differed, as al-Bukhārī said: "He heard from ʿAlī, narrated by ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAwn." And Ibn Abī Ḥātim said from his father: "He narrated from ʿAlī (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu); mursal, narrated by ..." Indeed, a ninth trustworthy narrator can be added to them, who is al-ʿAbbās ibn al-Walīd al-Narsī, as will be mentioned quoting "Lisān al-Ḥāfiẓ." For this reason, I strongly dismiss attributing the defect of the ḥadīth of (washing on Friday) to this Abū Fāṭimah, and its defect is the disconnection between al-Ḥasan and Abū Umāmah. If it is necessary to descend from him to another, it would be Ḥawshab ibn Muslim, as I mentioned earlier, he is less renowned than Abū Fāṭimah, although al-Ḥāfiẓ said about him: "Truthful."
