"I am older than you, and the children are under the care of Allāh and His Messenger. As for jealousy, I hope Allāh will remove it." This was recorded by Abū Yaʿlá in his "Musnad" (198/1): ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ṣāliḥ al-Azdī narrated to us, ʿAjlān ibn ʿAbd Allāh from the Banū ʿAdī narrated to me from Mālik ibn Dīnār from Anas who said: When Abū Salamah was on his deathbed, Umm Salamah said, "To whom will you entrust me?" He replied, "O Allāh, You are better for Umm Salamah than Abū Salamah." When he passed away, the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) proposed to her. She said, "I am of advanced age." He mentioned this, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) married her and sent her two millstones and a water jug!" I said: This is a good chain; its narrators are trustworthy and well-known, except for ʿAjlān, whom Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned among the trustworthy (2/234). Ibn Abī Ḥātim (3/2/19) quoted Abū Zurʿah as saying: "He is from Basra and there is no harm in him."
