from Muzaynah and Sulaym, and in every tribe there were numbers and Islam, and the Muhājirūn and Anṣār accompanied the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) completely; none of them stayed behind. When the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) camped at (Marra al-Ẓahrān), news had been completely concealed from Quraysh; they received no information about the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), nor did they know what he intended to do. That night, Abū Sufyān ibn Ḥarb, Ḥakīm ibn Ḥizām, and Budayl ibn Warqāʾ went out to scout and see if they could find any news or hear anything. Al-ʿAbbās ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib had come to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) on the way. Abū Sufyān ibn al-Ḥārith ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Umayyah ibn al-Mughīrah had also met the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) between Mecca and Medina. They sought permission to enter upon him, and Umm Salamah spoke to him on their behalf, saying: "O Messenger of Allāh! Your cousin, and the son of your aunt and your brother-in-law." He said: "I have no need for them. As for my cousin, he violated my honor, and as for the son of my aunt and my brother-in-law, he is the one who said to me in Mecca what he said."
