and it was transmitted by the virtuous brother Waṣī Allāh in his commentary on "al-Faḍāʾil" (2/924)! He agreed with it because he did not encounter the two weak paths.

- "Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allāh will receive a good deed for it, and a good deed is multiplied tenfold. I do not say that (Alif Lām Mīm) is a letter, but rather Alif is a letter, Lām is a letter, and Mīm is a letter." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" (1/216/679) and al-Tirmidhī (8/115/2910), both with the same chain of narration. They said—and the wording is from al-Tirmidhī—: Muḥammad ibn Bashshār narrated to us: Abū Bakr al-Ḥanafī narrated to us: al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn ʿUthmān narrated to us from Ayyūb ibn Mūsá who said: I heard Muḥammad ibn Kaʿb al-Quraẓī say: I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd say: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it. Al-Tirmidhī said: "This ḥadīth is also narrated through other routes from Ibn Masʿūd, and it was narrated by Abū al-Aḥwaṣ from Ibn Masʿūd; some raised it [to the Prophet], and some stopped it at Ibn Masʿūd." Abū ʿĪsá said: "This is a ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ gharīb ḥadīth from this route." I say: Its chain is good, all its men are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim]; except for al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn ʿUthmān, whom Muslim used as evidence, and there is disagreement about him. Al-Dhahabī said in "al-Mīzān": "Truthful but makes mistakes." Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful but errs." And it is as if al-Bukhārī alluded to this by his statement after the ḥadīth in the biography of al-Quraẓī:
