"the narrator from Muṭarrif is not well-known, and the known narration in this is from Muḥammad ibn Ṭalḥah al-Ṭawīl from Abū Suhayl." The ḥāfiẓ mentioned this in the biography of (.. al-Namrī al-Baṣrī) in "al-Lisān." Then he followed it with another biography, saying: "ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Khwārazmī..." Then he mentioned some of his teachers and some narrators from him, then he mentioned what Abū Nuʿaym said in his biography from "Akhbār Iṣbahān" (2/52): "He came to Iṣbahān and narrated there, and there is strangeness in his ḥadīth." The ḥāfiẓ commented on it by saying: "I say: It is possible that he [al-Namrī al-Baṣrī] is the same as the one before him; for they are in the same generation." I say: This is a strong possibility, and he missed that Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned (al-Khwārazmī) in "al-Thiqāt" (8/367), saying: "He narrates from Abū Nuʿaym, and the people of Khurāsān narrated from him. He died in the year 267, and he sometimes narrated rare things." I say: And if you recognize the weakness of this path by corroboration, and the path of Ibn al-Munkadir before it; it becomes clear to you the error in the statement of Shaykh ʿAbd al-Qādir Badrān ﵀ in "Tahdhīb Tārīkh Ibn ʿAsākir" (7/240-241) following the ḥadīth, referring to the path of Mālik and others: "It was narrated through multiple paths, each strengthening the other!"
