the commentator on "Mawārid al-Muʾassasah" overlooked this fact, pointing out the first error but not this one! For this reason, I included this wording in my book "Ḍaʿīf Mawārid al-Ẓamʾān" (27/351), and the first in "Ṣaḥīḥ Mawārid al-Ẓamʾān" (301/352), both of which are under publication. The other issue is that the commentator on "al-Iḥsān" altered its isnād in a very poor manner, presenting it as follows (6/100/2330): Abū Khalīfah informed us, saying: ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Muʿādh narrated to us, saying: My father Muʿādh ibn Muʿādh narrated to me, saying: Ashʿath ibn Sawwār narrated to us... etc. Observe how he placed (ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Muʿādh) instead of: (my father), the father of Abū Khalīfah, and omitted the father's statement: "narrated to us"! Thus, (ʿUbayd Allāh) became the teacher of Abū Khalīfah (1), and (Muʿādh ibn Muʿādh) the teacher of his son ʿUbayd Allāh!! Consequently, the isnād to (Ashʿath ibn Sawwār) appeared authentic! This is a type of tadlīs we have never encountered from anyone, neither in the past nor recently, and it closely resembles what is known among the muḥaddithīn as tadlīs al-shuyūkh! This is due to the misfortune of entrusting matters to those unqualified; to children who do not master the craft of takhrīj and commentary, let alone the art of authentication and weakening!! The matter did not stop there, but he built upon it another type of ignorance and slander against al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥibbān, commenting on the text of the ḥadīth by saying: "Ibn Ḥibbān narrated it this way, proving that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) used to pray in the blankets of his wives, contrary to the Companions of the 'Sunan' and others; they mentioned in their narration that he did not pray in the blankets..."!
